NEWFIELD GREEN LIBRARY

“Coming to the coffee mornings has helped with my anxiety as I feel a lot more comfortable going out and socialising”

About the library

Newfield Green Library is a community library and an important social hub for local people living in a very disadvantaged area of the city. Reach South Sheffield took over the management of this library from Sheffield City Council in 2014, saving it from possible closure. The library has twenty five dedicated volunteers that run shifts and manage activities. The library has had around 5500 visits in the last year, with an average of 45 visits per week.

The volunteers have increased book loans by 30% in the last year, hosted 51 coffee mornings and delivered 40 children’s craft sessions to 158 young people. The library also hosts a range of weekly activities and groups, including a visiting Credit Union, a kids’ craft group, a coffee morning and a Silver Surfers group. We offer one to one support with job searching and applying for work at this library twice a week. Four computers are available for members of the library to use, free of charge.

Newfield Green Library is located at 577 Gleadless Road, Sheffield S2 2BT.
